Local residents gathered in the heart of Tooting days before the London Marathon to say good luck to their MP Sadiq Khan.
Sadiq is running the marathon for the Dispossessed Fund, which supports hundreds of charities and thousands of people across London.
Community organisations, such as the Balham and Tooting Community Association (BATCA), which works to bring together local people and celebrate Tooting’s religious and ethnic diversity, and local charities gathered at Mushkil Aasaan community centre to hear all about Sadiq’s marathon journey and to say a royal Tooting ‘good luck’ for the 26.2 mile race.
So far, Tooting’s MP has raised over £13,000, smashing his own target of £2,000, with donations ranging from £1 to £1,500.

“Training has been really tough over the last two months, but the support I have received from the local community in Tooting has been brilliant. It’s good to hear so many Tooting people will be there to watch on the day. I know, when I hit the last few miles, a friendly face and a shout of support from the crowd will help keep me going towards the finish line.
“The Dispossessed Fund does a fantastic job of supporting charities across London, including many here in Tooting too. It was the chance to help charities which support Londoners in need that really convinced me to run the marathon in the first place, and with £13,000 raised already, it’s one of the best decisions I’ve ever made.

“It’s great to see our own MP taking on the challenge of running a marathon, and raising money for great local charities. Everyone in Tooting is behind him and very proud of our MP. We know you’re going to do well, together with Tooting Yes We Khan!”
