Tooting’s Spice Village has been nominated by local MP, Sadiq Khan, to take part in the prestigious Tiffin Cup competition after residents chose it as their favourite South Asian Restaurant in Tooting.
Two thirds of residents who contacted the Tooting MP to nominate their favourite South Asian restaurant chose Spice Village, on Upper Tooting Road, which will now be judged alongside other constituencies’ nominations for a chance to win the Regional Finals and then the Tiffin Cup itself. The finals will be judged in Westminster.
Sadiq Khan, MP for Tooting, said: “I am delighted that the nomination for Spice Village has been accepted and will take part in this year’s Tiffin Cup. This is such a prestigious competition and I look forward to welcoming Spice Village to the House of Commons”.

Originally created by Leicester East MP, Keith Vaz, the Tiffin Cup celebrates the UK’s South Asian cuisine. Every MP is invited to put forward the best South Asian restaurant in their constituency, and a select few of those are short-listed by mystery shopper-style judges. These restaurants are then invited to the House of Commons, to take part in a ‘cook-off’ in one of the many outlets around Parliament before the 2016 winner is announced on July 12.
This year the competition is in aid of the charities World Vision and Water Aid.
In last year’s Tiffin Cup, Tooting’s Vijaya Krishna restaurant was ‘Highly Commended’.
Sadiq Khan said: “I am sure everyone in Tooting will be rooting for Spice Village to become this year’s Tiffin Cup champions!”
