Sadiq raises concerns for family living outside TK Maxx

Update from Sadiq Khan

"I have shared local concerns for their wellbeing and raised the matter with Wandsworth Council and the police on a number of occasions, and recently called for checks on the family to be increased in light of the drop in temperature.

"There have been a number of developments in the last few days and I wanted to give you an update on the situation.

"I understand that the mother was hospitalised a couple of days ago after suffering from cold and the bench was subsequently removed by Transport for London. I am told that the mother was again offered accommodation by the council, but this offer was not accepted. The mother has now been discharged from hospital and has returned to the same location, where she is currently sitting on a plastic chair. It is understood that the son is currently in hospital.

"I remain concerned that the situation is yet to be resolved, and can assure you that I am working with both the police and Wandsworth Council to make sure the family have all the support they need. The police have reassured me the mother will be visited  regularly by officers, to monitor her wellbeing. Going forward, my priority is to make sure a long term solution is found sooner, rather than later.

"I hope you find this update to be helpful."
