Sadiq Khan: new poll shows Mayor must freeze fares for 2014

New polling released by the RMT and Survation today shows that 78% of regular commuters in London think current fares are too high. It also showed that 71% of tube users would be quite or very concerned if ticket offices were closed.

Sadiq Khan MP, Shadow Minister for London said:

“It is clear that the vast majority of Londoners completely reject the Mayor’s fare hikes and ticket office closures. We are in the middle of a cost-of-living crisis and yet since 2008 the Mayor has increased the cost of a single bus journey by 56% and a zone 1-6 travel card is £440 a year more expensive. At the same time the Mayor is providing Londoners with a worse service by closing ticket offices. The Mayor must now listen to the people he is supposed to represent and freeze fares at least at inflation for 2014”
