This year marks the 10th Anniversary of The Tiffin Cup, an annual Parliamentary competition, organised by a cross-party group of MPs, which aims to find the UK’s best South Asian restaurant.
Originally created by Leicester East MP, Keith Vaz, the Tiffin Cup celebrates the UK’s South Asian cuisine. Every MP is invited to put forward the best South Asian restaurant in their constituency, and a select few of those are short-listed by mystery shopper-style judges. These restaurants are then invited to the House of Commons, to take part in a ‘cook-off’ in one of the many outlets around Parliament. The winner of this will be awarded 2016’s Tiffin Cup and awarded the accolade of ‘Best South Asian Restaurant in the UK’ by the Tiffin Club.
Sadiq Khan, MP for Tooting, said: “We all know that Tooting is home to the best curry restaurants in the country but having lived here all my life, I have too many favourite restaurants in Tooting and couldn’t possibly choose just one – so I need the help of the people of Tooting to choose which restaurant should go forward.
The Tiffin Cup offers a great opportunity to show off our local talent to the rest of the country and I look forward to receiving nominations from local foodies”.

In last year’s Tiffin Cup, Tooting’s Vijaya Krishna restaurant was ‘Highly Commended’.
The competition aims to raise the profile of the quality and diversity of South Asian food in Britain while raising money for the charities World Vision and WaterAid.
To vote, residents can email Sadiq Khan directly at firstname.lastname@example.org or give their nominations in to his constituency office at 273 Balham High Road on Mondays, Wednesdays or Fridays, 9:30am-5:30pm. All nominations must be received by Wednesday 13th April 2016. All restaurants must be within the Tooting constituency, which covers Tooting, Earlsfield, Wandsworth Common, Furzedown, Tooting Bec and parts of Balham.
Sadiq Khan will be announcing the most popular South Asian restaurant in Tooting in late April 2016. This restaurant will then go forward as Tooting’s official nomination to the competition.
