Campaigning to end the Bedroom Tax

Sadiq Khan MP, on today's Private Members Bill said:

“The Bedroom Tax is cruel, unfair and it isn’t working. That’s why Labour has been consistent in its opposition and is committed to scrapping it if we win the election next year.

“The Private Members Bill seeks to exempt certain categories of household from the Bedroom Tax. This falls short of the full abolition that Labour wants to see, but we will seek to amend and strengthen the Bill.

“Today I voted in Parliament to support the Bill and I am pleased to say that the Bill will now progress to the next parliamentary stage.”

“The Labour Party will do whatever it can to fight this unjust and unworkable policy. But the only way to be sure of repealing it will be to elect a Labour government next year.”
